and helping students with placement years.
Over the last few years, there has been a cultural shift on recruiting staff for Independent Schools. Although there is still a place in many schools for Gap Students, the need for Graduates has increased hugely. This is due to the added responsibilities that can be given to them, appointing young people who have a genuine interest in education as a career and the opportunity to employ individuals that may stay for longer than one school year. Furthermore, the amount of 'on the job' PGCEs has also increased due to having the ability to see how these individuals thrive in a real life school environment.
If you are a recent Graduate, or looking for a placement during your University course, a Graduate Assistant role could be the perfect stepping stone into a career in education, or a chance to gain transferable experience for your future career. Furthermore, it could provide you with accommodation, food and bills along with a competitive salary whilst working in an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable environment.
The chance to also focus on and further experience strengths and interests. This is not just sport, a common misconception when applying. Schools are wanting Graduates that are interested in all aspects of school life, be it Sport, Music, Art, Literature, Performing Arts or any academic subjects.
As a current House Parents and starting our teaching careers as Graduate Assistants, we have seen both sides of the journey. As an employer, finding someone responsible and remarkable is incredibly hard in a very competitive market. As a Graduate, the amount of applications can be overwhelming and finding the right school tricky.
At GradAssistants we streamline the process for both employer and applicant. You tell us what you are looking for and we will match you together.
